The Forensic Hospital
Working with The Yoga Foundation Hahra taught the first in person yoga program in the Psychiatric Hospital at Long Bay High Security Prison, known as The Forensic Hospital. Two group classes were held weekly back to back and evaluated for continued funding. Classes ran over a period of 2 years and included a phase of program development and participant consultation.
Participants were assessed prior to attendance by their OT. Each class was designed specifically to take place easily within the security building location and the necessary protocols.
Each class was designed to incorporate students individual needs and intersectional (co-morbid) requirements. Many also lived with chronic health conditions, injury and pain. This is Hahra's favourite program they have been involved in through The Yoga Foundation.
The student group was dedicated and enthusiastic and over time demonstrated they could incorporate self-care into how they chose to practice in the group. Evaluations consistently showed the positive benefits experienced by participants.
