Hahra (they/them) - specialist yoga teacher for unique needs of body and mind

Hello. Giinagay. Galang. Welcome.

I’m Hahra and I teach and try to live what we have come to call yoga.

For me this includes using what is available to me with my body and mind to connect to something bigger through regulating my emotions and understanding my motivations.

I focus on yoga as a practice adaptable to unique circumstances and individual needs.

I work primarily in the areas of mental health and disability but have experience applying yoga for regeneration and recovery from injury, chronic exhaustion and illness, diverse experiences in a body and diverse experiences of identity.

In 2015 I opened 'The Mind and Movement Centre' (TMMC) in Sydney which was a dedicated space for yoga taught for different ability and mental health. I had so much fun and wonderful experiences here learning from and getting to know all the people that shared in this space.

I moved to lived and taught in in the Blue Mountains, NSW for some years and now I live on the Mid North Coast of NSW.

I was previously known as Sarah, so if you encountered me at TMMC or teaching yoga in Sydney in the past it would have been as Sarah.

I am a person, just like you, with challenges and joys in life that are unique. I believe that in this way we are all alike. We seek information and guidance from others but ultimately, REGARDLESS OF CONDITIONS, we are each experts in our unique existence, our own body, life and needs.

Whilst it doesn't always feel like we are experts we can practice, sense and grow into our own power and agency in body and mind. I believe yoga is a tool for accessing this agency and power.

What I teach combines my dedication to equality, accessibility and human rights.

What I teach is informed by science.

What I teach incorporates body, mind, individual circumstance, time, place, community, spirit, identity, values, beliefs and engagement with life.

Yoga is not just for bodies. Yoga is for people.

N.B. Whilst I do a lot of this work myself, I do sometimes work with other teachers I know have aligned skills and experience. I am also supported by a range of people, from my supervisors to someone we might hire a space from. To incorporate this I use the language of ‘we’ in this site as these people are a part of my team who I believe also understand and foster inclusivity, awareness of difference and compassionate inclusion.
